Administration undertaking activities to ensure unity of nationalities,
sustainable dev't Wolkite, May
15 (GICD) - Qebena
Woreda Administration has reportedly been undertaking various activities to
create healthy bondage among nationalities and ensure sustainable
development by ending malpractices that hindered the development of Wolkite
town, capital of the woreda. Qebena Woreda
Administrator Kedir Hussein told South Mass Media Agency that the
attitudinal and administrative problems prevalent in Qebena Woreda and
Wolkite town have also been the causes of the increasing illegal
construction of houses in the town. According to
him, disregard to the constitutional rights of nations and nationalities,
ethnicism and narrow nationalism are the major causes of such problems As the rights of
the Qebena nationality have however been ensured ending the previous
disparities, the development of the town would primarily benefit
nationalities around the town, he said, adding that cognizant of this the
woreda council and the public at various levels held discussions and agreed
to work towards the overall development of the town. He also said the
Gurage Zone Administration has already ratified a regulation on how to
compensate farmers around the town that have been affected due to the
expansion of the town, which according to him has enabled the woreda
administration and the farmers to work towards the implementation of the
town’s master plan. Nevertheless,
there are still some individuals undertaking illegal constructions, the
administrator said, further revealing that the woreda administration would
take the necessary measures. Kedir finally
stated that the Qebena Woreda Administration would focus on mobilizing the
nationals to jointly embark upon development endeavors and called on all
concerned bodies at zonal and regional levels as well as the public in
Wolkite town to contribute their share to the efforts underway. (END)
