April 30 (GICD)–
Activities of building the execution capacity of civil servants and
government authorities of Gurage Zone have been carried out in Wolkite town.
Speaking
at the conclusion of the consultative meeting and training of trainers held
for 11 days in Wolkite town, Gurage Zone Administrator Eristu Yirda said the
inability to implement the civil service reform has been posing negative
impact on development and democratization activities in the zone. The
executives and civil servants who had a good understanding of the program
are tending to revert over the last two years, Eristu said, adding that
weakness of the administrative members in this respect is detrimental to
progress and the flourishing of democracy. He
noted that reversing the implementation of the civil service program means
keeping the attitudinal problems in the civil service. Therefore the efforts
to execute the program with the involvement of all civil servants will be
redoubled,Eristu underscored. Zonal
Capacity Building Department Head Kiflemariam Mekuria said on his part the
training of the revised civil service reform program will have a significant
contribution to solve the common problems of knowledge and skills among the
leadership and civil servants at different levels. Kiflemariam
said about 120 zonal cabinet members, deputy department heads, office
heads, woreda chief administrators, reform towns, mayors and experts who
would duplicate the training participated in the training. Participants
of the training said the revised civil service reform enables to implement
the five basic components of the program and lays the foundation for the
sustainability of the ongoing efforts of building a democratic order. They
added that they have gained sufficient knowledge on how to solve governance
problems and render efficient services to the public. (END)
