Women’s
Day colorfully celebrated in Gurage Zone

International Women’s Day has been observed colorfully
in various woredas of Gurage Zone, according to Gurage
Zonal Women’s Affair Department.
Department
Head Rewda Jemal said this year's March 8
is unique in that it was celebrated at a time
when the government thwarted the invasion of the Somali
Islamic extremists and the terrorist plot coordinated by
Shaebiya as well as by the time women are undertaking
community participatory development activities so as to
welcome the millennium.
Women
are playing a crucial role in the country by involving
in decision making as the government executes various
activities so as to alleviate the domination of men, she
added.
Speaking
during March 8 celebration in Butajira town, Women’s
Affair Office Head with the Town Administration,
Masresha Awel, said justice bodies need to ensure their
partnership with women by taking rapid and corrective
measures against perpetrators of sexual violence.
