CCF builds over one million birr worth dam in Sodo Woreda

Wolkite, June 21 (GICD) A modern irrigation dam constructed at a cost of 1.4 million birr in Sodo Woreda by the Christian Childrens Fund (CCF) Bui area project has gone operational

Inaugurating the dam, CCF Director General Hubert Charles said his organization works mainly in rain-deficit areas and where backward farming is practiced.

The organization is executing various activities backing up the efforts of the government to change the livelihood of children and families by ensuring food self-sufficiency, he added.

The fund for the execution of the Anati Gorti Irrigation Project has been secured from CCF and the government of Australia, according to the director general.

The dam could cultivate 120 hectares and benefit over 1,200 farmers, it was learnt.  

Zonal Agriculture and Rural Development Department Head, Lacha Garuma, on the occasion said the construction of the irrigation dam has significant contribution to the realization of the development policy designed by the government by boosting the production and productivity of farmers.

It would also help farmers to cultivate market-oriented crops and raise their income, he stated.

The head pledged that the department would provide agricultural inputs and the necessary professional assistance to enable the farmers produce market-oriented crops twice in a year.
