Education coverage of Gedebano Gutazer Wolene Woreda jumps to 75 percent

Wolkite, June 11 (WIC) The education coverage of Gedebano Gutazer Wolene Woreda has reached 75 percent owing to the efforts exerted by the government and the public, the woreda Education Office said.

At a discussion held in Jimma Wolene kebele with the public regarding the construction of a secondary school, Woreda Education Office Head Geletu Negash said the state government is working strenuously to realize the Millennium Development Goals of universal access to education. The number of schools in the woreda has subsequently grown from five to 36 and the enrollment of students from 777 to 16,852 since the fall of the military regime, he added.

Various schools are reportedly under construction in the woreda by the government, the public and investors, the head also stated.

The woreda administration on its part is building a secondary school in Jimma Wolene kebele with over 370,000 birr, he disclosed, adding that it would serve children of farmers in 11 kebeles.

Farmers in the kebele expressed their delight as the woreda administration met their long time request for a secondary school and pledged to contribute labor and financial support for the cause.
