Women
in Gurage Zone registering encouraging results in various spheres

Organized women in Gurage Zone are scoring encouraging results in the
economic, political and social spheres, according to the representative of
the Zonal Women's Affairs Department.
The
representative, Askale Wolde-Hawariat, told the visiting delegation of Kaffa
Zone women's affairs department leaders, members and experts that the women
are scoring encouraging results by getting organized under various
associations to enhance their income.
In
accordance with women's development policy designed by the government, the
women were organized under credit and savings as well as agricultural
activities and given skills development training.
Kaffa
Zone Women's Affairs Department Head, Meseret Meskele, said she has realized
that women can ensure the rights enshrined in the constitution and
contribute estimable result in the economy, political and social sectors by
getting organized in associations.
Askale
and Meseret further indicated that efforts have been exerted to increase the
income of women by devising policies that enable them to benefit from the
current economic growth. Yet both condemned the rising violence against
women.
They
stressed that rules against sexual violence should be clearly promulgated
and detailed guidelines of execution should be enforced. The heads also
urged members of the community to condemn and confront the violence against
women.
