Humanitarian
agency constructs, maintains water facilities with over 3mln birr in Meskan

April 27 (GICD) -
Potable water projects constructed with over three million birr in Meskan
Woreda of Gurage Zone have gone operational. Coordinator
of Kawdo, a humanitarian organization, Zelalem Befekadu, said
the facilities have been constructed in coordination with the Woreda Water
Desk with a fund obtained from German Agro-Action.
The
facilities constructed in rural kebeles with potable water problems would
benefit over 22,000 people, according to the coordinator. He
further said the organization has undertaken the construction of 21 manually
operated and six medium water wells as well as the renovation of five
manually operated wells during the last six months. Besides,
the organization has hired three sanitation workers to provide door-to-door
health care education for women farmers, Zelalem said, adding that
popularizing Artemisia, a plant effective in preventing malaria, has also
been underway. (END)
