Residents
of Abeshge woreda urged to engage in controlling crime, sexual violence

April 27 (GICD)–Administrator
of Abeshge woreda in Gurage Zone said the security situation in the woreda
has reached a precarious level. While
presenting the six-month performance report on the 13th regular conference of the woreda council, Woreda administrator
Tessema Teklu said the cooperation of the public is mandatory as security in
the woreda is worsening. Sexual
harassment on women, burglary as well as murder are becoming common in the
woreda, he said, and urged the participants of the conference to give due
attention to the problem. After
in-depth deliberations on the report, the participants reached consensus
that the problem of the woreda would sustainably be solved when the public
bring the perpetrators to justice. They also
urged all members of the woreda council to discharge their responsibilities
of ensuring peace and order in their respective localities by actively
involving the public and giving due attention to the problem. The
participants also passed decision for the formulation of law by coordinating
Idirs, religious heads and elders so as to prevent the sexual violence
perpetrated against women. The two-day
conference that dwelt on wide-ranging issues of the woreda was concluded by
endorsing the appointment of four cabinet members and sacking three cabinet
