Inhabitants
of Gurage Zone urged to uphold tradition of development Wolkite,April
9 (GICD)–Inhabitants
of Gurage Zone should uphold their tradition of development in order to make
the upcoming Ethiopian millennium conducive to the next generation.
Zonal
Deputy Administrator Yigletu Abza made the remark while inaugurating the
Borkema-Joka-Mecheya asphalt road built in Cheha Woreda by the government
and the public. The
government has given due attention to the development of infrastructural
facilities in localities of farmers to sustain the economic growth
registered for the fourth time, the deputy administrator said. The
upcoming millennium is a time in which a fertile ground would be laid for
the coming generation to lead decent life, he said, and urged the
inhabitants of the zone to play vital role by taking part in the
implementation of the development policies designed by the government. Cheha Woreda Development Coordinating Committee Representative, Mengistu Libabo, on his part said the 19kmS road open for traffic has been executed at a cost of over half a million birr. The construction of a bridge was also undertaken with 240,000 birr, he added. The
construction of the road is instrumental in backing up the implementation of
the farmer-centered economy policy pursued by the government, he stated,
adding that it would also link the Cheha and Gumer woredas as well as enable
farmers to easily take their produces to markets. The
residents on their part noted that the construction of the road would end
the burden of women in particular. (END) |
